Seniors Deserve Property Tax Decreases and Not Just Freezes

For many seniors across Texas Senate District 5, owning a home represents decades of hard work, sacrifice, and careful planning. It should provide stability and peace of mind during retirement. Instead, rising costs and high property taxes continue to place pressure on seniors living on fixed incomes.

I am running for the Texas Senate because seniors deserve more than stability. They deserve meaningful relief.

Stability Alone Is Not Enough

Texas offers property tax freezes for seniors once they reach a certain age. While freezes prevent taxes from increasing further, they do not reduce the overall burden seniors already face.

Many seniors bought their homes years ago, when property values and tax bills were far lower. Over time, rising appraisals have increased the base level of taxes they pay. A freeze simply locks in that higher amount.

For seniors on fixed incomes, that can still mean tough financial decisions year after year.

Fixed Incomes and Rising Costs

Retirement income is often predictable. Expenses are not.

Seniors must account for:

  • Health care costs

  • Prescription medications

  • Utilities and home insurance

  • Everyday living expenses

When property taxes remain high, seniors are left with fewer options to manage their budgets. This pressure can make it harder to remain in the homes and communities they love.

Why Decreases Matter

Property tax decreases for seniors provide real relief. They recognize that seniors have already contributed to their communities for decades.

Reducing property taxes for seniors would:

  • Ease financial strain

  • Improve housing stability

  • Help seniors remain independent

Relief should reflect the reality of fixed incomes and rising living costs.

Keeping Seniors in Their Homes Benefits Everyone

When seniors are forced to consider leaving their homes due to high costs, communities lose experience, stability, and strong neighborhood connections.

Helping seniors remain in their homes strengthens families and preserves the character of our communities across District 5.

A system that works for seniors ultimately works better for everyone.

A Fair and Respectful Approach

Property tax relief for seniors should be fair, predictable, and easy to understand.

Seniors should not have to navigate complex systems or paperwork to receive relief. The process should respect their time and circumstances.

State Level Leadership Is Key

Property tax policies are governed by state law. Meaningful improvements require thoughtful leadership and practical reforms.

As a state senator, I will focus on policies that recognize the needs of seniors and provide real property tax relief without unnecessary complexity.

This approach is about fairness, not politics.

Listening to Seniors

Seniors have built our communities. Their voices matter.

I am committed to listening to seniors across District 5, understanding their concerns, and ensuring their needs are reflected in legislation.

Moving Forward With Respect

Seniors deserve to enjoy retirement without constant financial stress tied to their homes.

Property tax decreases are one way to honor a lifetime of work and contribution.

As your senator, I will work to make sure the system respects seniors and provides the relief they deserve.

Together, we can build a property tax system that supports seniors and strengthens communities across District 5.
