Homeownership has long been part of the Texas promise. You work hard, save, and invest in a place to raise your family or build your future. Owning a home should bring stability and peace of mind. For too many families in Texas Senate District 5, property taxes have become a growing source of stress instead.
I am running for the Texas Senate because the system should work for homeowners, not against them.

Homeownership Should Mean Stability
For most families, a home is their largest investment. It is where memories are made, neighbors are known, and roots are planted. Yet rising appraisals have made it harder for families to plan for the future.
When the value of a home increases on paper, the tax bill often increases as well. This happens even when a family’s income does not change. Over time, that pressure adds up.
Instead of stability, homeowners are left wondering what their tax bill will look like next year.
Rising Appraisals Create Real Pressure
Across District 5, homeowners are seeing appraisal notices that jump year after year. Even modest homes are being valued higher, often faster than wages or retirement income can keep up.
This leads to real consequences for families, including:
Less room in the monthly budget
Delayed home maintenance or repairs
Tough decisions about staying in the home they worked hard to buy
Property taxes should not force families to choose between their home and their financial security.
The System Feels One Sided
Many homeowners feel like they have little control once an appraisal notice arrives. The protest process exists, but it often feels complicated and time-consuming.
Homeowners are expected to understand valuation methods, compare properties, and meet strict deadlines. At the same time, appraisal districts already have the data and experience needed to support their numbers.
A fair system should not place the entire burden on homeowners to prove the system wrong.
Transparency Builds Trust
When homeowners understand how their property was valued, they can participate in the process with confidence. Transparency is the foundation of trust.
That is why the protest process should be straightforward and informative. Homeowners should have access to the information used to determine their appraisal so they can make informed decisions.
Clear information leads to fewer disputes and better outcomes for everyone involved.
Property Tax Reform Should Be Practical
Property tax reform does not require complicated solutions. It requires practical changes that focus on fairness and accountability.
These reforms should:
Protect homeowners from unreasonable appraisal increases
Make the protest process easier to understand
Ensure taxpayers are treated fairly and consistently
When the rules are clear, families can plan and communities can thrive.

Seniors and Long Term Homeowners Need Relief
Many seniors and long term homeowners live on fixed incomes. While tax freezes offer some stability, they do not reduce the overall burden.
Rising costs affect more than taxes alone. Utilities, insurance, and everyday expenses continue to grow. That is why meaningful property tax relief matters for seniors who want to remain in their homes.
Helping seniors stay in their homes strengthens families and communities across District 5.
State Leadership Matters
Property taxes are governed by state law. Real reform requires leadership at the state level that focuses on homeowners and long term solutions.
As a state senator, I will work to improve the tax code so it better reflects fairness, transparency, and accountability for homeowners.
This is not about shifting blame. It is about fixing what is not working.
A System That Respects Homeowners
Texans take pride in homeownership. The property tax system should respect that investment.
A fair system gives homeowners clarity, predictability, and confidence. It allows families to plan for the future without fear of being priced out of their homes.
Moving Forward
You worked hard for your home. The property tax system should work for you.
As your senator, I will focus on practical reforms that protect homeowners, improve transparency, and restore trust in the system.
Together, we can make property taxes fairer and more predictable for families across District 5.
